On the occasion of the celebration of 7th and 8th of March – teachers and women’s Day -, the museum of the cultural heritage centre of the Tumulus of Kamenica organized, on March 8th, 2008 a seminar. Thanks to the five papers presented in this activity:

an assessment of the position of women in the family and their role in society through centuries and among various civilizations was done, concluding with an up-to-date overview of women’s rights in the Albanian Law. An important section of the seminar was devoted to women of Korça from the past and still alive who have left a significant and successful contribution in the fields of science and culture, such as Sevasti and Parashqevi Qiriazi, Mallama Sofroni, Lina Grameno, Andromaqi Zengo, Aleksandra Mano, Andromaqi Gjergji, Zhaneta Andrea, Elfrida Zefi, Irena Kallço, Zamira Kita, Anida Take, Pavlina Nikaj, Natasha Lako, and many others. The seminar was attended by a large number of public and representatives of institutions, such as the major of Korça, Mr. Niko Peleshi; the prefect of Korça, Mrs. Elfrida Zefi; the head of the District’s Council, Mr. Ilia Milo, who all expressed their appreciation for the activity. A stimulating intervention was also the one offered by the well known ethnographer Andromaqi Gjergji. The interesting discussion which followed at the end was focused on the importance of school education and on the need to increase it among girls often discriminated within their own families. |

The large number of participants confirmed that the centre of cultural heritage of the Tumulus of Kamenica is becoming an important cultural, educational and tourist centre in the Korça area. |
